Syndicate looks hot!

The new Syndicate game, a *gasp* first person shooter, has just had it’s first reveal trailer released. Check it out and tell me it doesn’t look fricking awesome:

This is the official EA blurb:

“2069 – no longer governed by politicians, the developed world is divided up into regions controlled by mega-corporations known as syndicates. These syndicates have revolutionized how the consumer interacts with the digital world. No longer does the consumer require a device to access the world’s data and control their technology, they can do this at the blink of an eye via neural chip implant.

“Civilians flocked to be ‘chip’d’ and enjoy all that their selected syndicate has to offer; housing, medical, banking, insurance, education, entertainment and jobs. One complete package. One complete lifestyle. In return, the syndicates gained unprecedented insights, and control, over the individual and their behaviour. With little governmental oversight, business has become war. The syndicates will stop at nothing for ultimate market dominance.

“At the front line of this war are the agents, the syndicate’s bio-engineered and chip-augmented enforcers. They can breach anything in the wired dataverse including their enemies, their weapons and the environment that surrounds them, making them the most efficient and deadly technological weapons in the world. Take on the role of miles kilo, eurocorp’s latest prototype agent, and embark on a brutal action adventure of corruption and revenge.”

Syndicate will be released in February 2012 on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. Check the unofficial Syndicate forums for all the Syndicate information you could ever need.

Two new expansion DLC packs have landed on Steam ahead of the Missing Link DLC due later this year.

These are the Explosive Mission Pack, which unlocks the Tong’s Rescue Bonus Mission, the Grenade Launcher, the Remote-Detonated Explosive Device and the Automatic Unlocking Device.

…and the Tactical Enhancement Pack which unlocks the Double-Barrel Shotgun, the Silenced Sniper Rifle, and 10,000 extra in-game credits.

These are £1.99 and £1.19 respectively or £2.49 if bought as a bundle, which must be… ooh, thousands of your American dollars.

Syndicate is Cartel is Syndicate

September 23, 2011 Posted by AzH

Syndicate is currently a bit of a buzzword in gaming circles, primarily due to EA/Starbreeze ditching the traditional squad-based RTS in favour of a first person shooter experience for their reboot of Bulldog’s nineties classic.

Hot on the heels of the reboot announcement and the resulting fanboy nerdrage over a switch in genre, comes the announcement from Paradox of Cartel:

Cartel takes place in a near future when a number of very big corporations have managed to become powerful enough to battle each other for world domination.

Players will have to manage the affairs of one of the corporations, handling research and diplomacy and also deploying assets in order to directly fight competitors.

Sounds a lot like Syndicate to me!

It’s a bold and brilliant strategy. If Paradox had announced this a few months ago, some eyebrows would have been raised over the similarities between Cartel and the original Syndicate, but nothing much would have come from it. Now though, you can see Cartel will be used as a stick for fanboys to beat EA/Starbreeze over the direction of their reboot.

Personally I’m very happy with the chosen direction and I think the new Syndicate game will be a hit. Starbreeze make excellent FPS games, and EA will no doubt plough much resource into the title to get it out there.

I’m very likely to sample Cartel too. I loved the original Syndicate game as well as the setting, so getting to play something as near-as-dammit to based on is good enough for me.

Cartel is expected in 12 – 18 months time; so expect fall/winter 2012. Syndicate is expected early next year.

Syndicate

Hot on the heels of DXHR comes the announcement for Syndicate. A reboot of the nineties classic strategy game. Switching from RTS to FPS, the new Syndicate game promises to be one to watch. Expect stealth, expect action, expect nasty corporate underhand dealings.

Business is War. War is coming to Syndicate in 2012.
